Dr. Matthew Wolfson is an ABOS Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who is fellowship trained in sports medicine and arthroscopy. He grew up in Long Island, New York and later attended the University of Miami graduating high honors with a BS in Neurobiology and minors in both Business and Chemistry. He earned his medical degree at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine in Orlando. Dr. Wolfson then completed a prestigious 5-year Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Boston University Medical Center working closely with his mentor, world-renowned orthopaedic trauma surgeon and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery (AAOS) president, Dr. Paul Tornetta III.
Following the completion of residency, Dr. Wolfson spent an additional year completing a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. During that year he trained in complex knee and shoulder procedures focusing on minimally invasive techniques and arthroscopy. In addition, he was an official medical provider and co-team physician for all University of Miami athletics as well as for the Miami Marlins major league baseball team.
Through the use of advanced open and arthroscopic surgical techniques Dr. Wolfson focuses on restoring damaged joints, ligaments and bones in the shoulder, elbow and knee. Dr. Wolfson cares for athletes of all ages, beginning from adolescence through adulthood and at all levels of participation, from the weekend warrior to the high school, collegiate and professional athlete. He believes in a comprehensive approach to patient care, including utilization of physical therapy and conservative management to explore all alternatives of treatment before surgery is considered.
Dr. Wolfson has a special interest in performing quadricep tendon autograft ACL reconstruction using a modern, innovative, minimally invasive, all-inside technique. He also has a clinical interest in knee ligament injuries, cartilage preservation and restoration, meniscus injury, patellar instability, rotator cuff injuries, shoulder instability and labral tears, pectoralis and distal biceps tendon rupture, shoulder arthritis, and elbow injuries. Dr. Wolfson is trained in joint replacement surgery and fracture care.
Dr. Wolfson is an active member of numerous academic societies including the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), and the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA). He is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care with the highest level of compassion and expertise. He is currently affiliated with Boca Raton Regional Hospital, West Boca Medical Center, Bethesda Hospitals East and West.
Dr. Wolfson and his wife have two children and are active in the Boca Raton and surrounding communities. He enjoys cycling, tennis and golf. He looks forward to giving back and contributing to the outstanding South Florida community.
